EA Sports FC 25 has had a gameplay overhaul

EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant criticism, extending beyond its monetization practices to encompass its technical performance. This backlash prompted the developers to release a "Gameplay Refresh Update" featuring over 50 changes to game mechanics. These adjustments address core gameplay systems, including assists, shots, goalkeeping, and defending. Specific improvements include: reduced instances of defenders inexplicably catching up to ball carriers; smoother attacking transitions; decreased AI reverse tackles and interceptions; a reduction in the effectiveness of crossing passes; quicker support from players in familiar roles; improved offside detection for AI attackers; and slightly improved accuracy of long-range shots.

Despite these changes, EA FC 25's initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews positive upon release. Criticisms centered on perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and difficulties with PlayStation controller recognition. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
