Destiny 2's Exotic Weapon Axed Due to Critical Glitch
Bungie disables Destiny 2's Hawkmoon hand cannon in PvP due to an exploit. The popular exotic weapon, known for its unique perks, was causing significant issues in Crucible matches. This isn't the first time Destiny 2 has faced game-breaking exploits; the game's history includes events like the overpowered Prometheus Lens incident.
Despite largely positive reception for the recent "The Final Shape" expansion, bugs persist. One reported bug renders the new No Hesitation auto rifle ineffective against barrier champions. This, along with the Hawkmoon exploit, highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining a live-service game.
Hawkmoon's disabling stems from a player-discovered exploit combining the Kinetic Holster mod with the weapon's Paracausal Shot perk. This combination allowed for essentially unlimited damage-boosted shots, resulting in one-hit kills in Crucible. Bungie acted swiftly, disabling the weapon in PvP before the Trials of Osiris weekend.
This action follows another recent exploit allowing for easy reward farming in private matches. While that exploit primarily yielded common resources, it also occasionally rewarded rare weapons. Bungie's quick response to both exploits, contrasting in severity, underscores the studio's commitment to maintaining game balance, even if it means addressing seemingly less impactful issues quickly.
