DC's Superman Unlimited welcomes Marvel's Dan Slott
DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, bringing acclaimed Marvel writer Dan Slott back to DC. Slott, known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity.
Superman Unlimited pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
Slott expressed his excitement, stating, "He’s the first and greatest superhero, and I've waited my whole life to tell his stories... Rafael Albuquerque and I will take him—and you—to places you'll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic villains, and brand-new friends and foes."
The series introduces a perilous new reality. A Kryptonite asteroid shower arms Superman's foes, like Intergang, with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This forces Superman to develop new technology and fighting strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares Superman Unlimited's impact to Superman/Batman from the early 2000s, highlighting the series' grand-scale adventures and the introduction of a massive Kryptonite deposit. He envisions a world where even petty criminals wield Kryptonite weapons, creating unprecedented danger for Superman and his allies.
Kaminski contrasts this with the recently launched Justice League Unlimited, emphasizing that Superman Unlimited focuses on a world of Kryptonite-empowered super-villains. He concludes, "Every line of Dan’s pitch is packed with surprises and every line Rafa draws is stunning… 2025 is truly going to be Superman UNLIMITED.”
A 10-page prelude appears in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025), followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film (July 11).
