Dawnwalker's Tale: Gameplay and Lore Revealed
The Blood of Dawnwalker: A Dark Fantasy RPG Unveiled
Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, recently showcased their upcoming open-world dark fantasy action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, at a game reveal event. This narrative-driven experience promises a unique blend of action and storytelling.
Meet Coen, the Unconventional Protagonist
Players assume the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker—a being existing between human and vampire—in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Narrative director Jakub Szamalek describes Coen as an emotionally complex and relatable character, a departure from typical video game protagonists. Coen's journey begins with a desperate race against time—30 days and nights—to save his family from the tyrannical vampire Brencis, who has plunged Vale Sangora into darkness. While the game features a time constraint, the developers emphasize a flexible gameplay pace.
Coen possesses unique abilities stemming from his vampiric nature, including superhuman agility and limited magical capabilities. The magic system, however, is grounded in the occult, focusing on rituals, amulets, and summonings rather than flashy spells.
A Narrative Sandbox: Choice and Consequence
The Blood of Dawnwalker emphasizes player agency. The game is designed as a "narrative sandbox," offering significant control over the narrative's progression. While the overarching goal remains consistent, players will encounter numerous paths and choices, shaping the world and its inhabitants.
To maintain the immersive single-player experience, the game will not feature multiplayer or co-op modes. However, players can expect a rich cast of characters, including potential romantic interests from diverse races, adding depth to Coen's journey.
Platform and Release
The Blood of Dawnwalker is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A release date has yet to be announced.
