Dawnwalker Aiming to Surpass Witcher 3's Quality
Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of ex-CD Projekt Red developers, is aiming for Witcher 3-level quality in their debut open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Despite a smaller scope, the team prioritizes high-quality development.
A Focused, High-Quality Experience
Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, in an interview with GamesRadar, emphasized the studio's AAA aspirations. While acknowledging the game's smaller scale compared to Witcher 3, he clarified that the team's focus is on delivering a robust, high-quality experience, not necessarily an expansive one. The target playtime for the main campaign is estimated at 30-40 hours. Tomaszkiewicz argues that playtime alone shouldn't define AAA status, citing examples like Call of Duty.
The core team at Rebel Wolves boasts extensive experience from their work on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The formation of Rebel Wolves allowed them greater creative freedom than working within a larger AAA studio.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a peasant imbued with vampiric powers, who embarks on a quest to save his sister while navigating the dangers of this mystical land.
While a release date is yet to be announced, the game is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal expected in Summer 2025.
