Cyberpunk 2077’s Idris Elba Hopes For Cyberpunk Live-Action With Keanu Reeves
Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Keanu Reeves. Read on for more details on this exciting prospect!
A Night City Reunion?
In a recent interview with ScreenRant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he and Reeves reunite), Elba expressed his strong belief that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action adaptation would be phenomenal, particularly with himself and Reeves reprising their roles. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa." This isn't just wishful thinking; Elba actively suggested the idea.
Reeves famously portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The possibility isn't entirely out of the question. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is under development, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While updates have been scarce since the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series makes a Cyberpunk adaptation seem increasingly likely.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Expands its Universe
Beyond the live-action possibility, the Cyberpunk universe continues to grow. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched its first chapter in several languages, with more to come in 2025. The manga will explore the backstory of Rebecca and Pilar, before their involvement with Maine's crew.
Furthermore, a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Blu-ray release is slated for 2025, and a new animated series is also in the works. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise across various media.
