Paradox Interactive has revealed initial details about their forthcoming Crusader Kings 3 expansion, centered around nomadic rulers. This DLC introduces a novel governance system specifically designed for nomadic peoples, incorporating a unique currency: "herd." The size of the ruler's herd directly influences their authority, impacting military might, cavalry unit composition, relationships with vassals, and other core gameplay mechanics.

The nomadic lifestyle necessitates constant movement, a key element reflected in the expansion. Chieftains will strategically relocate, their decisions shaped by interactions with settled populations – choosing between negotiation and forceful displacement.

Furthermore, rulers will command mobile yurts, similar to adventurer camps, which can be upgraded with various components offering distinct advantages.
