Channing Tatum's long-awaited Gambit movie, which was ultimately canceled, was set to bring a unique twist to the superhero genre. According to actress Lizzy Caplan, who was slated to star alongside Tatum, the film was envisioned as a '30s screwball romantic comedy set within the superhero universe. In her conversation with Business Insider, Caplan described the concept as "a really cool idea," highlighting the innovative approach the filmmakers were taking.

Tatum's journey to portray the charismatic X-Men character Gambit has been fraught with challenges. Despite numerous setbacks, including the cancellation of the standalone film following the 2019 Disney-Fox merger, Tatum's dedication to the role never wavered. He even admitted to being "traumatized" by the ordeal, fearing he might never get the chance to bring Gambit to life. However, fans were pleasantly surprised by Tatum's cameo as Gambit in the MCU blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine.

Lizzy Caplan, who was set to play the female lead in the Gambit movie as early as 2017, confirmed her involvement in the project during the Business Insider interview. She shared that preparations were well underway, stating, "We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it. I think there was a start date.” The film's producer, Simon Kinberg, had previously told IGN in 2018 that the movie would feature a "romantic or sex comedy vibe," which aligned with Gambit's character traits as a hustler and womanizer. Caplan's recent comments echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the film's intended '30s screwball romantic comedy style.

As for what lies ahead for Tatum and Gambit, Marvel Studios has yet to provide any concrete plans, though they have confirmed the upcoming integration of the X-Men into the MCU. The excitement around Gambit's future was reignited last August when Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool & Wolverine, shared a high-quality version of a scene on Twitter that had been difficult to see in cinemas, sparking speculation among fans.
