Capcom Weighs

Hideki Kamiya, in a recent interview with Ikumi Nakamura, reiterated his fervent desire to create sequels for both Okami and Viewtiful Joe. This interview, featured on Unseen's YouTube channel, reignited fan hopes for these long-awaited projects.

Kamiya expressed a strong sense of responsibility regarding Okami's incomplete narrative. He cited a previous social media interaction with Nakamura hinting at a potential sequel and emphasized his regret at leaving the story unfinished. He directly appealed to Capcom for collaboration on continuing the franchise, highlighting the game's high ranking in a recent Capcom sequel survey. Similarly, despite its smaller fanbase, he acknowledged the unresolved storyline of Viewtiful Joe and humorously recounted his unsuccessful attempt to advocate for a sequel via the same survey.

This isn't a new aspiration for Kamiya. A 2021 interview revealed his intention to address Okami's unanswered questions and expand upon its concepts in a sequel, even before leaving Capcom. The subsequent release of Okami HD only amplified player demand and solidified his commitment.

The Unseen interview also highlighted the creative synergy between Kamiya and Nakamura, who previously collaborated on Okami and Bayonetta. Their shared history and mutual respect were evident, with Nakamura describing how her contributions significantly shaped Bayonetta's visual style. Kamiya praised her ability to enhance his creative vision.

Despite recent career changes for both developers, their passion for game creation remains strong. The interview concluded with expressed hopes for future collaborative projects and a continued ambition to leave a lasting mark on the gaming world. Ultimately, the realization of Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3 rests with Capcom's decision to partner with them. The enthusiastic response from fans, however, clearly demonstrates the significant demand for these sequels.
