"Capcom Revives Breath of Fire IV on PC, 25 Years Later"
After a 25-year hiatus, the beloved role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC, courtesy of Capcom's ongoing efforts to revive classic titles. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and in Europe a year later, the game also saw a PC release in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story follows Ryu, a unique protagonist who possesses the ability to transform into a dragon, as he and his fellow warriors embark on a quest to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions.
As part of GOG's Preservation Program, Breath of Fire IV has been meticulously updated for contemporary PC systems. Now available DRM-free on GOG's platform, the game is fully optimized for Windows 10 and 11, featuring both English and Japanese localizations. The visual experience has been significantly enhanced with an upgraded DirectX renderer, offering improved graphics, new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction. Additionally, the audio engine has been overhauled, bringing back missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for an immersive auditory experience.
