Bethesda Voice Actor Shares Recovery Update
Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and numerous other titles, recently shared an emotional message as he recovers from a life-threatening incident. Last week, Johnson was found "barely alive" in his hotel room, leading to a critical health scare.
A video from Johnson, posted on a GoFundMe page, has raised $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and other bills. In the video, Johnson revealed that he had been in a coma. "I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," he expressed, reflecting on the overwhelming support he has received.
Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After flying down and checking into his hotel, he failed to appear at the event, raising concerns. His wife, Kim Johnson, called the hotel, and security, along with emergency medical technicians, were able to enter the room. They struggled to find a pulse, underscoring the severity of the situation.
"Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here," Johnson stated. He credited his survival to his wife's quick action in contacting the hotel and his son's call to security. Johnson was subsequently hospitalized and placed in a coma for five days. It was during this time that his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, along with his wife Kim, set up the GoFundMe page.
Johnson expressed gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for flying his family to see him and providing hotel accommodations. He also thanked Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals parent company, for a generous donation of $25,000, as well as Glasser and Elliker for their support.
Bethesda, where Johnson has contributed to many beloved games, showed their support on social media following the news of his illness. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," Johnson said, affirming his bond with the company. "Always will be. Love you guys." He extended his thanks to fans, both those who donated and those who offered support in other ways. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," he assured.
Despite the long road to recovery ahead, Johnson remains optimistic. "It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers," he concluded.
Johnson's voice acting career spans a wide range of roles, with significant contributions to Bethesda games. His recent role was as Ron Hope in Starfield. He has also voiced iconic characters such as Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among others.
