Baldur's Gate 3 Mobile Knock-off Surfaces
A fraudulent Baldur's Gate 3 mobile port has surfaced on the iOS App Store, prompting a warning to players. This fake app, deceptively presented with modified screenshots and a false mobile HUD overlay, is free initially but demands a hefty $29.99 monthly subscription fee. Crucially, there is no official mobile version of Baldur's Gate 3.
The app, titled "Baldurs Gate 3 - Mobile Turuk" and attributed to developer "Dmytro Turuk," lacks any mention of Larian Studios or the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. This omission should immediately raise red flags.
Data Theft Concerns:
While the exorbitant subscription fee is a clear giveaway, the app's terms of service reveal a more sinister aspect: it collects user IP addresses and potentially other personal data. This data harvesting makes the scam even more concerning. This isn't the first instance of a Baldur's Gate 3 rip-off appearing on app stores.
Currently, no similar fraudulent app has been identified on the Google Play Store (Android). However, gamers on both iOS and Android should exercise caution. If an app seems too good to be true, it likely is. Larian Studios has not announced any plans for a mobile port of Baldur's Gate 3. However, older Baldur's Gate titles are available on mobile platforms, and Baldur's Gate 3 can be streamed through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Anyone who downloaded the counterfeit Baldur's Gate 3 mobile app should delete it immediately to mitigate potential data breaches. Always verify the developer and legitimacy of any app before downloading.
