Astro Bot: Milestone Reached!

Astro Bot: A Platforming Phenomenon Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards

Team Asobi's Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platformers to become the most awarded in history, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year awards. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.

Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot, an expanded version of the popular Astro's Playroom tech demo, quickly garnered critical acclaim, becoming the highest-rated new game of 2024. Its success culminated in a triumphant win at The Game Awards 2024, securing the coveted Game of the Year title.

However, the accolades didn't stop there. As highlighted by NextGenPlayer on Twitter, utilizing data from gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker, Astro Bot's total award count has reached 104. While this is a monumental achievement, it still falls short of the impressive tallies of other top contenders like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 awards), The Last of Us Part II (326 awards), and Elden Ring (435 awards), the current record holder for most awarded game overall.

Despite this, Astro Bot's commercial success is undeniable, exceeding 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024. This is a significant accomplishment considering its relatively small development team (under 70 developers) and three-year development cycle. Astro Bot's journey from a PlayStation tech demo to a critically acclaimed, commercially successful title is a testament to Team Asobi's talent and dedication. It has undoubtedly solidified its place as a major PlayStation franchise.
