Gearbox Denies Launch Date Change is Influenced by Other Games

Prior to the State of Play, Gearbox Software announced that Borderlands 4 would be released two weeks earlier than initially planned, citing "incredible development work" as the reason. Despite this, fans speculated that the decision might be influenced by the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), especially given that both Gearbox and Rockstar Games are under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella.

Take-Two Interactive, during their November 2024 earnings call, confirmed intentions to launch GTA 6 in Fall 2025, which falls within the same fiscal year as Borderlands 4. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized in a November 2024 Variety interview that they would not intentionally schedule major releases to clash.

Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford addressed these speculations on Twitter (X) on April 30, firmly denying any influence from other game releases. He emphasized that the early release was due to their confidence in the game's quality, stating, "Our decision is literally 0% about any other product’s actual or theoretical launch date."

Regardless of the reasons behind the schedule change, fans are eagerly anticipating the early arrival of Borderlands 4, set to launch on September 12, 2025, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related articles below!
