Amazon's God of War Series Greenlit for Season 2 Pre-Release

Author : Emily Update : May 21,2025

Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series has yet to premiere, but it's already secured a commitment for two seasons, as announced by the show's new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore. Moore, who stepped in after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, shared insights into his current projects in a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum of the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica.

"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of, and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

Moore, who admits he's not a gamer, mentioned enjoying classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern gaming controllers: "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he said, highlighting his unfamiliarity with contemporary gaming hardware.

For the God of War series, Moore has taken on multiple roles, including writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His experience spans notable projects like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the critically acclaimed 2000s Battlestar Galactica.

Despite changes in the creative team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains involved as an executive producer. While many details about the series are still under wraps, it's confirmed that the show will be based on the 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's swift renewals of other video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following their successful launches, suggest a promising future for the God of War series on their streaming platform.
