Während des Nintendo Direct am 2. April für die Switch 2 wurde angekündigt, dass die GameCube-Version von The Wind Waker auf der neuen Konsole verfügbar sein wird. Natürlich führte dies dazu, dass Fans über die Möglichkeit einer Wind Waker HD-Portierung für das Next-Gen-System spekulierten.

Nate Bihldorff, Senior Vice President of Product Development bei Nintendo of America, sorgte für etwas Klarheit. In einer Folge von Kinda Funny Games Daily am 9. April berichtete Moderator Tim Gettys über ein Gespräch mit Bihldorff von einer Switch 2-Presseveranstaltung in New York. Während ihres Gesprächs kam das Thema einer möglichen Wind Waker HD-Portierung für die Switch 2 auf.

Gettys teilte mit: "Ich fragte, ob die Aufnahme von The Wind Waker in NSO bedeutet, dass die eigentliche Wii U-Portierung nicht auf die Switch 2 kommt. Er war schnell mit einem 'Nein, alle Optionen stehen zur Debatte' zur Stelle. Also ist nichts offiziell in die eine oder andere Richtung bestätigt."

Ursprünglich im Jahr 2002 veröffentlicht

Das Original The Wind Waker debütierte 2002 in Japan und 2003 auf den westlichen Märkten auf dem GameCube. Ein Jahrzehnt später erschien 2013 eine verbesserte Version, Wind Waker HD, für die Wii U.
