"You have returned, child of the First Flame." Kaelen swallowed. “I am not your chosen. I am not your weapon. I am only... here.” "You are the key. You are the echo. You are the reason the world did not end when it should have." She frowned. “Then why do they call me a curse?” The red ember flared. The blue one dimmed. And from the shadows beneath the broken arch of the old observatory, something stirred. Not a man. Not an animal. Something that had once worn a face, once spoken, once loved. A wraith in a tattered scholar’s robe, eyes hollow but burning with a fire that did not consume. “Kaelen,” it said, voice like pages turning in a forgotten library. “You were not meant to find them. The embers were sealed.
