Warner Bros. Game Co. Downsizes Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Rocksteady Studios, famed for the Batman: Arkham series, has experienced further layoffs following the disappointing performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The game's underperformance, reported in February, initially resulted in a 50% reduction of the QA team in September. This latest round of job cuts, reported by Eurogamer, impacts programming and art teams, occurring just before the release of the game's final update. Affected employees, speaking anonymously, confirm the recent dismissals. Warner Bros. remains silent on these developments, mirroring their response to the September layoffs.
The financial strain of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League's poor sales impacted not only Rocksteady but also WB Games Montreal. WB Games Montreal, responsible for Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, also announced layoffs in December, primarily affecting QA staff who supported Suicide Squad's post-launch content. The final DLC, featuring Deathstroke, launched December 10th. Following the release of a final update later this month, Rocksteady's future projects remain uncertain. The game's underachievement casts a shadow on Rocksteady's otherwise impressive track record of critically acclaimed DC titles.
