"Split Fiction Surpasses 2 Million Sales in One Week"
Hazelight Games has announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, continues to enjoy a phenomenal launch, having sold 2 million copies in just one week. The game, featuring a dual-protagonist narrative, was released on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, and has quickly cemented itself as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are "blown away" by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
Just 48 hours after its launch, Split Fiction had already attracted 1 million players eager to dive into the sci-fi journey of Mio and Zoe. Remarkably, another million copies were sold in the five days that followed, highlighting the game's rapid rise in popularity.
Given Split Fiction's cooperative nature, the actual number of players experiencing the game is likely much higher than the sales figures suggest. The innovative Friend's Pass feature plays a significant role in this, allowing one player to buy the game and invite a friend to join for free. As the game continues to generate buzz on social media, it's anticipated that the 2 million sold will continue to grow.
Hazelight's previous release, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory, selling approximately 1 million copies within weeks of its March 2021 launch. By February 2023, sales had soared to 10 million copies, and by October 2024, they reached an impressive 20 million.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another," underscoring its versatility and appeal to gamers.
