NieR: Automata - Fishing Guide
Quick Links
NieR: Automata's world offers more than just android-machine warfare. Fishing provides a peaceful, optional activity that can be easily bypassed. While it won't boost your character level, it's a surprisingly efficient way to acquire rare items and quickly earn money without the resource expenditure of combat. Here's a guide to fishing and its rewards.
How To Fish In NieR: Automata
Fishing is possible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas like those near the Resistance Camp. Simply stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Holding the button initiates the fishing process. Fishing uses a single button to cast and reel:
- O on PlayStation
- B on Xbox
- Enter on PC
After casting, wait for the pod to be fully submerged and make a distinct "plop" sound before rapidly pressing the reel-in button. You have a limited reaction window; otherwise, the fish escapes, and you must recast. There are no limitations on casting frequency.
A helpful plug-in chip displays a fishing icon in the top-right corner when you're near fishable water.
Rewards For Fishing In NieR: Automata
Most fish and junk items obtained through fishing are valuable commodities. Selling them provides a safe and relatively fast method for early-game wealth accumulation, particularly for players aiming to maximize their plug-in chip capacity. Sewers offer a chance to acquire the Iron Pipe, a potentially powerful weapon depending on your luck.
