La prohibición de Tiktok entrará en vigencia el domingo 19 de enero, luego de la decisión unánime de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos de rechazar la apelación de la plataforma de redes sociales. El fallo de la corte se produjo después de expresar escepticismo sobre el desafío de la Primera Enmienda de Tiktok.

Los nueve jueces reconocieron que la recopilación de datos es una práctica común en el panorama digital actual. Sin embargo, declararon: "La escala y la susceptibilidad de Tiktok al control adversario extranjero, junto con las vastas franjas de datos confidenciales que recopila la plataforma, justifica el tratamiento diferencial para abordar las preocupaciones de seguridad nacional del gobierno".

Sigue siendo incierto si China estaría dispuesto a vender Tiktok directamente a un comprador occidental, aunque los informes sugieren que una compra completa podría estar sobre la mesa. Según los informes, Elon Musk, involucrado con la administración entrante de Trump, se considera un intermediario potencial para los compradores occidentales interesados, o incluso podría intentar adquirir el propio Tiktok.

La semana pasada, los usuarios de Tiktok han emigrado a la plataforma de redes sociales chinas Red Note, o Xiaohongshu, que comparte un formato similar. Reuters informa que Red Note ganó más de 700,000 nuevos usuarios en solo dos días.
