Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The company's commitment to self-publishing remains firm.
Independent Publishing Chosen for Crimson Desert
Release Date and Platforms Still Unconfirmed
In a statement to Eurogamer, Pearl Abyss reiterated its intention to independently publish Crimson Desert, a decision previously announced during their last earnings call. While acknowledging and appreciating its business partners, the developer emphasized its ongoing discussions for various collaborations.
A playable Crimson Desert build will be showcased to media this week in Paris, followed by a public demonstration at G-Star in November. The company clarified that no release date has been set, dismissing current speculation as premature.
Sony's Pursuit of Exclusivity and Pearl Abyss's Decision
According to a September investor meeting, Sony attempted to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss concluded that self-publishing offered superior profitability.
While the final platform lineup and release date remain unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox launch is anticipated around Q2 2025.
