MSI Claw A8: la primera PC para juegos de mano de próxima generación

Las PC para juegos de mano han visto un aumento en la popularidad desde el lanzamiento de la plataforma de Steam en 2022, y el mercado ha estado dominado por dispositivos utilizando el chipset Extreme Z1 durante los últimos dos años. Sin embargo, un nuevo contendiente, el MSI Claw A8, anunciado en Computex 2025, está configurado para cambiar el juego al ser el primero en usar el chipset extremo Z2 presentado en el CES 2025.

El MSI Claw A8 comparte similitudes con la recientemente lanzada Claw 8 AI, pero con algunas actualizaciones clave. MSI ha ajustado la RAM máxima de 32 GB a 24 GB de LPDDR5X, que funciona a 8,000MHz. Además, la pantalla del A8 ahora admite VRR (tasa de actualización variable), reduciendo la probabilidad de desgarro de pantalla a pesar de ambos dispositivos con paneles FullHD de 120 Hz.

La actualización más significativa en el MSI Claw A8 es la transición del Intel Core Ultra 7 285V al AMD Z2 Extreme. Esta APU cuenta con 8 núcleos de CPU Zen 5 y 16 núcleos gráficos RDNA 3.5, que ofrece más unidades de cómputo que las 12 que se encuentran en el Z1 Extreme y una arquitectura avanzada.

Junto con el Claw A8, MSI ha introducido una versión actualizada del MSI Claw 8 Ai+, con un nuevo esquema de color y un SSD de 2 TB más grande, pero sigue siendo alimentado por el Intel Core Ultra 7 285V.

Si bien el MSI Claw A8 está programado para un lanzamiento a finales de este año, no se han revelado fechas de lanzamiento específicas y precios. Dado el precio de $ 999 de MSI Claw 8 Ai+, se espera que la Claw A8 con AMD tenga un precio premium.

El AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme se anunció silenciosamente en el CES en enero de 2025. A partir de ahora, casi cinco meses después, ninguna PC para juegos de mano todavía ha llegado al mercado con este nuevo chip. La carrera está activada para ver qué fabricante será el primero en lanzar un dispositivo Z2 Extreme Powered.

Aunque el Lenovo Legion Go 2, también revelado en CES 2025, está impulsado por el Z2 Extreme, Lenovo no ha proporcionado ninguna indicación de su entrada al mercado. En cambio, lanzaron la Legión Lenovo GO de Lenovo GO de Lenovo menos potente y más caro.

Los rumores sugieren que el ASUS ROG Ally 2 también contará con el Z2 Extreme, aunque no se ha hecho ningún anuncio oficial. También se especula sobre una posible colaboración entre ASUS y Microsoft para una versión de la marca Xbox del Ally 2, que probablemente también incorporará el Z2 Extreme.

En particular, la cubierta de vapor 2 no utilizará el Z2 Extreme. Valve ha declarado que los nuevos chips de la serie Z de AMD no representan una mejora lo suficientemente significativa como para justificar una nueva computadora de mano. Si bien esto puede plantear preguntas sobre el rendimiento del Z2 Extreme, las nuevas alternativas a la cubierta de vapor aún ofrecerán mejoras sobre las ofertas actuales del mercado, lo cual es un desarrollo positivo para los jugadores.
